Day 6
Today was the 6th day of school. And sadly I had 3 little friends on orange and 1 on red. I blame testing. Every year at the start of the year (too early into the year) I have to individually test the kids. I AM NOT AGAINST TESTING. I am against telling a class of 5 year olds to work silently while I sit in the corner and test students. I don't really like my class to be silent. I like them to work together, interact, learn from each other. This is the beginning of the year! They're still getting to know the new friends in their class. It's not just 1 test. That would be fine ... no big deal. BUT NO! This is 5 tests for our reading curriculum, a 2 page math test, AND the state reading assessment. Can you say Crazy-nuts?!! THEY ARE FIVE! ALSO... I have 1 month to finish all of these. No wonder they keep telling me they want to go home. I want to go home too. I would pay a sub to help me... as in money from my pathetic salary to interact with my kids while I sit and test kids. For a month. How much do subs get paid anyway? Back to testing tomorrow... and every day until OCTOBER.
